Heavy Rain Causes Wastewater Overflow

Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) found nine locations that showed evidence of a wastewater overflow December 30. Upon arrival they determined overflows of an unknown amount flowed into Eslava Creek based on trace evidence. These overflows possibly occurred during recent rain events. MAWSS crews will investigate further to determine the cause. Locations showing trace evidence of an overflow are listed below.

What We Are Doing

Inflow/Infiltration
Stormwater enters cracked piping and overloads the sanitary sewer system during rainfall. Daily crews perform sanitary sewer evaluations, which include smoke testing, dye testing, visual inspection, and video investigation.
