Mobile Area Water & Sewer System continues demonstrating excellence by winning the 2023 Alabama Water Pollution Control Association (AWPCA) Best Operated Plant/Distribution System Award. “ I cannot begin to express how happy I am for all the operators and this huge achievement at both plants. Great job everyone!” says Engineer II Markus Moore. The E.M. Stickney Water Treatment Plant received the two-year Best Operated Plant award for Surface Water Plant 20.1-30.0 MGD this year. H.E. Myers Water Treatment Plant won the one-year Best Operated Groundwater Plant for >100,000 population served.
AWPCA was founded in 1946 by water and wastewater professional operators—the association aimed to promote knowledge of water supply and treatment of potable water and wastewater reclamation. Today, there are over 400 members representing operators throughout the state. AWPCA continues to be a tremendous resource supporting Alabama water and wastewater operators.
Consideration for the AWPCA Awards requires a thorough plant inspection, which results in scores based on standardized criteria. Some examples of what is inspected include the treatment of each unit process, the complexity of the treatment process, process control and monitoring, laboratory quality control, records, equipment calibration, plant appearance, and safety programs.
