Mobile, AL – August 22, 2024—The Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) announces its scheduled fire hydrant flushing for August. The flushing will target specific areas to ensure optimal water quality and system maintenance. The flushing will occur in designated zones marked on the attached map, focusing primarily on the regions around Dawes Road, Cottage Hill Road, and Snow Road.

 Flushing Areas Include:

• Dawes Road Area: This area includes neighborhoods along Dawes Road and adjacent streets, extending from Grelot Road to Jeff Hamilton Road.
• Cottage Hill Road Area: Surrounding areas along Cottage Hill Road, particularly where it intersects with Schillinger Road and Grelot Road.
• Snow Road South Area: This area encompasses the areas along Snow Road South, extending from Tanner Williams Road to Jeff Hamilton Road.

The process involves opening fire hydrants to remove sediment from pipes, which may cause temporary water discoloration and fluctuations in pressure. While the water remains safe for non-drinking uses, we recommend refraining from drinking it until it runs clear. Discolored water is safe for showering, bathing, and toilet flushing, but you should refrain from washing light-colored items.

To clear any discoloration, customers should run several cold water taps in their homes for a few minutes until the water runs clear. If discoloration persists, please contact our customer care team at (251) 694-6135.
