Mobile, AL—July 17, 2024—The Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) announces its scheduled fire hydrant flushing for July. The flushing will target specific areas to ensure optimal water quality and system maintenance. The flushing will occur in designated zones marked on the attached map, focusing primarily on the regions around Schillinger Road, Zeigler Boulevard, and Old Shell Road.
Flushing Areas Include:
The flushing process involves opening fire hydrants to remove sediment from pipes, which may cause temporary water discoloration and fluctuations in pressure. While the water remains safe for non-drinking uses, we recommend refraining from drinking it until it runs clear. Discolored water is safe for showering, bathing, and toilet flushing.
To clear any discoloration, customers should run several cold water taps in their homes for a few minutes until the water runs clear. If discoloration persists, please get in touch with our customer care team at (251) 694-6135.
