Engineer II
Markus Moore is the Engineer II, managing all water facilities that help Mobile Area Water & Sewer System provide clean drinking water to its 100,000+ customers. These facilities include Big Creek Lake, many pumping stations, water treatment plants, elevated storage tanks, and booster stations throughout the county. He also works as a project manager on most of the construction projects occurring within those areas of operation.
He began his career with MAWSS in 2007 as a Treatment Plant Operator trainee. Since then, he has worked his way up through the organization by holding the jobs of TPO I, II, III, and Engineer I before filling his current position. During this time, he has focused on supplementing operational experience with collegiate education to obtain a valuable perspective on day-to-day operations and planning necessary future upgrades.
Markus has also remained active in the water and wastewater industry. He manages the website for the Alabama Water and Pollution Control Association (AWPCA), works as a district director for the same organization directing training for southwest Alabama, and fulfills the role of the American Water Works Association's (AWWA's) Operator Chair of Alabama. Under his leadership, MAWSS treatment plants and distribution system has won numerous awards, including the AWWA's 2023 "Best Tasting Water" award for the Alabama and Mississippi region, multiple optimization awards given by the EPA for water quality excellence, and various awards through the AWPCA's best-operated plant competitions.
A native of Mobile, Markus holds a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Bachelor's degrees in Civil Engineering and Russian Language from the University of South Alabama, and a Master's in Business Administration from Auburn University. He is a proud father who lovingly raises his three children with his wife, Stephanie.
