Public Relations Manager
Monica Allen, a native of Mobile, is happy to be back home after spending most of her career in Texas, Mississippi, and central Alabama. The University of Alabama graduate spent two decades as a television news anchor and reporter, winning awards for documentaries, anchoring, and reporting.
Customer service, sales, marketing, and event planning experience was honed at PCH Resorts, the Retirement Systems of Alabama award-winning hotel collection, where her team was recognized as North American Sales Franchise of the Year.
In the intervening years, she has been a public relations professional for non-profits and in government, in the administration of a former Alabama governor. The Public Affairs Manager at Mobile Area Water & Sewer System has been at what she calls her “dream job” since 2018 in which she has been working on increasing employee engagement, developing creative public relations responses to water/sewer-related issues, coordinating MAWSS participation in community events and devising a social media campaign to spotlight the utility and efforts to “Keep Water Working,” the most expansive infrastructure plan in MAWSS history. The highlight has been implementing a Citizens Water Academy.
Monica is a member of several organizations, including Rebuilding Together, Africatown Business & Community Panel, Public Relations Council of America, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the Southern Public Relations Federation.
Formerly, Monica was on the board and a graduate of Leadership Montgomery and Leadership Alabama Initiative under 40.
