Van Shepard

Van Shepard, CPA is the Comptroller of the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System which provides water and wastewater services to more than 100,000 customers across Mobile County.

He began his career with MAWSS in January 2020 as an Accountant II. During this time, he was managing the Purchasing and Payroll departments.

From 2015 until he started working at MAWSS, Van was employed at a public accounting firm in Kentucky. There his main focus was on performing governmental and non-profits audits. During this time, he became a licensed CPA as well.

MAWSS has always believed in being transparent with its financials. For more than 20 consecutive years, MAWSS has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting through the GFOA. It is Van’s goal to receive this award every year moving forward. Under Van’s leadership, MAWSS has also been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award and the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award through the GFOA.

Born and raised in Lexington, KY, Van holds a Bachelor's Degree from Western Kentucky University and has been a licensed CPA since 2018. He and his family absolutely love the area.
